Curriculum & Instruction
Welcome to the Office of Curriculum and Instruction!! Greetings, Elwood community!
My name is Dr. Amy Meyer, and I am honored to serve as your new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction.
Last winter, when I saw the posting for my position, it immediately caught my attention. What drew me to Elwood wasn’t just the job description — it was what I discovered about this community. Elwood is a small town, with deep roots, strong traditions, and an extraordinary student focus. That combination is rare — and powerful.
I was inspired by the way this community comes together around its schools, how students are truly known by their teachers, and how there’s such pride in who we are and what we stand for.
I am beyond excited to be here — to learn with you, to grow with you, and to help lead Elwood during a time of both opportunity and change. Across New York State, education is shifting quickly. At the same time, our students and their families showcase new strengths and face new challenges every day. But what remains constant — and what makes me so proud to join you — is the passion and dedication of the Elwood faculty and staff.
. . . this brings me to our theme for this year: Elwood Elevate.
Elwood Elevate is about rising together. It’s about innovating in our classrooms, integrating our work across disciplines, and inspiring every student we serve. When we elevate, we rise above obstacles, and we lift our students to their fullest potential. This theme captures what Elwood already does so well — and what we will continue to grow together.
Guided by our commitment to Elwood Elevate, the mission of the Elwood Union Free School District is to cultivate an innovative and collaborative learning environment that empowers every student to rise to their unique potential and achieve academic excellence. We are dedicated to preparing students for their future, equipping each child with the essential tools to become respectful, responsible, resilient, and empathetic adults. The Elwood school community is committed to developing lifelong learners with the intellectual, social, and emotional skills necessary for success as active citizens in our local community and an ever-changing global society.
To bring this vision to life, we are constantly working to elevate our instruction and curriculum through best practices in professional learning. By offering a rich array of programs and courses, we ensure all students engage in critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, collaboration, and creativity. Our approach includes the effective use of technology and the real-world application of knowledge, preparing students for the demands of tomorrow. We have expanded our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives to build resilience and character, embedding this development directly into the educational experience. We strive to foster open communication and active participation among all members of our school and the wider community. We are proud of our talented and dedicated professional staff, who are deeply committed to ensuring every child is supported every day.
