Dr. Timothy Hoss was appointed by the Elwood School District last month as the interim principal of James H. Boyd Intermediate School, replacing Elissa Millan.

Dr. Hoss comes to Elwood from the Northport School District, where he worked as interim assistant principal at Northport High School from January to June of this year. He had served as principal of Northport Middle School from 2009 until his retirement in 2025.

He previously worked as an assistant principal and social studies teacher at Edgemont Junior-Senior High School in Scarsdale, a social studies and language arts teacher at Mahopac Middle School, and a SUNY New Paltz adult education teacher for the New York State Department of Corrections. Dr. Hoss is also a current adjunct professor at Hofstra University, Russell Sage College and the University of Mount Saint Vincent, and a former adjunct professor at Concordia College.

A Greenlawn resident, Dr. Hoss earned his bachelor’s degree in history and politics at SUNY Binghamton; master’s degrees in teaching and special education from SUNY New Paltz; a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University; and his doctorate in education and policy leadership from Hofstra University.

“Dr. Hoss brings more than three decades of experience to Elwood, along with a genuine, student-centered approach to leadership,” Superintendent Dr. Gayle Steele said. “His extensive background and collaborative approach will ensure continuity and support for our students, staff and families at Boyd.”
